Prepare for your first solo drive after passing your practical driving test

Choose a familiar route and a time that is not during rush hour or when there is busy traffic

Check your car has sufficient fuel and there is no warning lights showing on the dashboard.

Walk round your car and check for any damage and tyres are in good condition, check fluid levels and make sure all electrical systems are working, including windscreen washer, demisting systems.

Ensure all mirrors are correctly adjusted and the seat is comfortable, Cockpit drill.

Make sure your phone is charged and secured away from temptation. Take a drink with you.

Let someone know where you are going and how long you will be. Notifiy them you have arrived and when you are coming back.

This should be a location you know well, a friends house or somewhere that you can stop and take some time to calm down. Car Park, or Landmark close to your home.

Choose your route in advance and let someone know which way you are going.

You will be nervous, which is natural on your first time out on your own, but good planning will help and give you a positive experience.
